Otoplasty
Otoplasty, commonly known as ear surgery, is a procedure that lowers the size of large ears or moves prominent ears closer to the head. Particularly at a young age, it is advised. Because it may be intended to shield the child from the social and psychological difficulties he might experience when he is old enough to attend school. Children between the ages of six and fourteen are the ones who get cosmetic ear surgery the most frequently. It can be done later if it is not done at this age.
Smokers should give up smoking at least two-three weeks before surgery, as is advised for all procedures. The patient should let his doctor know what medications he or she is taking. Before surgery, blood thinners may need to be changed or stopped.
Ear surgery can be performed under either general or local anesthesia. For children, general anesthesia is usually preferred. The surgery is carried out through an incision behind the ear. The scar behind the ear fades after a few months.
Patients are usually discharged the same day. The dressing is opened on the second day for control. It is recommended that a tennis bandage be worn for three weeks to relieve tension on the ear cartilages and protect the ears.
